Sildenafil citrate is the medication of choice for people suffering from erectile dysfunction. It is available in different brands such as Filagra, Viagra, Kamagara, and more. It also comes in different preparations. This medication is prescribed by a healthcare provider, although some people are able to purchase Filagra online without prescription.

How it works?

The exact mechanism of action of sildenafil citrate is not yet fully understood but it is thought to work by preventing the enzyme phosphodiesterase type 5 from working in the body.

Penile erection results from a cascade of physiologic events ultimately leading to engorgement of the penis with blood. Normally, sexual stimulation results in the production and release of nitric oxide (NO) in the penis. Nitrogen oxide then causes the production of cGMP – which is the primary compound that regulates penile erection.

Sildenafil citrate inhibits the action of phophodiesterase-5 (PDE5) which causes the depletion of cGMP. This medication allows cGMP to persist longer and accumulate; and also result in more prolonged erections.

Sildenafil medications are to be taken only by people with prescription and for its intended purpose only. It should not be taken if you do not suffer from erectile dysfunction.
